Stormwater Programs
Mohave County's Stormwater Management Program is a multi-faceted program, enforced through the Clean Water Act and regulated through Arizona Department of Environmental Quality Permit (AZG2016-002). The purpose of the Program is, to the extent practicable, prevent pollutants contained with stormwater runoff from entering the Waters of the United States (i.e. Colorado River and Lake Havasu).
The program requires many of the departments within Mohave County to work together to inspect, monitor, clean, maintain, and, in some cases, augment the publically-maintained operations that convey or discharge stormwater into the Waters of the United States. Such operations include the publically maintained buildings and yars, construction projects, and drainage infrastructure which consists of the public roads, culverts, catch basins, and storm drains. But the work performed by Mohave County Staff is only one piece of this complex program. The Stormwater Management Program also involves the business owners and residents who reside within Mohave County's permit area. Contractors and business owners will be required to keep pollutants and non-stormwater runoff from exiting their sites. Private citizens will be asked to be aware that what they put on the ground is carried way to our straembeds, rivers and lakes. To help everyone to better understand the overall Program, ADEQ divides the requirements associated with the permit into a series of sub-programs often referred to as Minimum Control Measures (MCMs). Each MCM defines the processes associated with reducing, preventing, detecting, and/or cleaning up pollution before it leaves the permit area. Draft versons of these sub-programs can be accessed by clicking the titles below. Mohave County does encourage you to read the programs, ask questions, and make comments. We welcome your feedback. Only through a cooperative effort will Mohave County's Stormwater Program be successful. Please submit your suggestions and inquiries to stormwater@mohave.gov. |
The mission of the Stormwater Management Program is to ensure that our rivers, lakes, and dry stream beds remain free of trash, pollutants, and pathogens for generations to come.
